The Galactic WC stars. Stellar parameters from spectral analyses indicate a new evolutionary sequence

by A. Sander, W.-R. Hamann, and H. Todt, A&A 540, A144

The authors present a new and homogeneous model atmosphere analysis of an almost complete sample of the Galactic Wolf-Rayet stars of spectral type WC that do not suffer from heavy extinction. The sample shows a tight relation in the temperature-transformed radius and luminosity-mass loss planes. Comparison with evolutionary calculations concludes that some discrepancies are still awaiting explanation and that Wolf-Rayet stars of type WC are not progeny of the most massive stars.
