Three ways to solve the orbit of KIC11558725: a 10-day beaming sdB+WD binary with a pulsating subdwarf

The authors apply three methods to solve the orbit of the close binary KIC 11558725. This system consists of a subdwarf B (sdB) star and a (invisible) white dwarf. Two photometric methods are applied to determine the orbital parameters: 1) the non-radial oscillations of the sdB are used as a clock and 2) the Doppler beaming effect is measured. Applying the latter method has only become possible with high-precision light curves measured with the Kepler satellite. Both methods yield results that agree with the orbit computed using spectroscopic radial velocities.
